Merging Classrooms Plus Refreshed Interiors

An extensive school project, our work on Tamaki College’s B-Block encompassed 8 classrooms plus the girls’ and boys’ toilets. VIKON were chosen for this project thanks to our proven expertise in quality school renovations. For Tamaki College, we aimed to cultivated an environment conducive to both interactive and independent learning.

Our work over these 8 classrooms was actually to reconfigure them into four! By using their combined area, we were able to create fewer, but larger spaces that encouraged collaboration and ease of teaching. In order to facilitate this, we took down the walls and raised modular dividers, which allowed for the joining or isolation of spaces as required, making for thoroughly enriched learning spaces!

On a technical level, we began with the demolition of the existing classroom interiors then opened up the foundation for the foundation pads in order to support the portal beams. Our carpenters modified the framing for this new formation.

Inside, we replaced all the wall linings, carpets, lighting fixtures, and rewired both the electrical & data cables, fully refreshing and rejuvenating the space to fit the new layout. Part of the interior renovation were our custom teaching units that we provided with our in-house joinery department. We tailored each of them to their respective spaces in terms of colours and function. Also, we created a custom-made projector box, collaborating with the IT team for seamless integration.

The refurbishment also covered the boys’ and girls’ toilet blocks, which saw a comprehensive renovation of its cladding and internals. With high school bathrooms being notoriously unpredictable, we brought in incredibly robust interiors with hardy vinyl flooring and soundly implemented partitions to ensure they weather the storm of students.

All in all, our work on Tamaki College not only gave some much needed breathing room to its B-Block classrooms, but also revamped its bathrooms to refresh them anew. Both sections saw incredible improvements to their function, pleasantness, and aesthetics.
