A Quaint Kitchenette for Kōwhai Intermediate

For Kowhai Intermediate, BoxMakers were called upon to create a kitchenette within their senior leadership offices. This upgrade also encompassed the replacement of their outdated heating systems as well as a layout reconfiguration to optimise for functionality.

As the centrepiece of this project, the new kitchenette took the place of what was originally a staff mail station. BoxMakers’ work replaced the cubbies with a compact yet powerful kitchenette, complete with a splashback, sink, and custom cabinetry.

The kitchen featured dual water delivery systems: a general mixer tap from Domenic, and a high-tech drinking water tap from Zenith Water. The latter can conveniently deliver both boiling and chilled water, making the kitchen perfect for washing, drinking, and brewing.

Behind the sink, the splashback is a beautiful panel of white glass, a perfect complement for the Premium Ply melamine cabinets – a wavy wood finish from Prime Panels. Also included is an integrated dishwasher from Fisher & Paykel, as well as a bar fridge by InAlto. This kitchenette provides almost all the functions of a regular kitchen in a fraction of the size.

Over the kitchen, an electric roller shutter can be activated to conceal it at day’s end. Elsewhere, our team installed new energy-efficient heat pumps for year-round comfort, and reorganised the office layout for improved flow and spatial efficiency. This quaint and cosy kitchenette packs all the features to elevate the daily lives of the school’s leadership and administration team, while taking up barely any real estate.
