A Breathtaking Home Extension

For this Bucklands Beach residence, VIKON demonstrated our expertise in home extensions. The owner’s motivation for this project stemmed from a desire for more space and freedom within the house. With a growing family and increasing spatial needs, their vision for two extra bedrooms plus a balcony was strategically and thoughtfully realised by our expert crew.

Owing to the scope of work, we also reworked part of the interior to accommodate entry to this new slice. We changed up a bedroom to a modest living space and bathroom, with the former featuring the connection point. On the ground floor, we reworked a rumpus room into a master bedroom and created a subfloor area using horizontal base boards with a ventilation gap to support the new space above. For the entrance canopy, we collaborated with Fresco Shades for a modest, yet effective solution.

Now featuring a total of 5 bedrooms (two of those being masters), this home is fully ready to accommodate large & busy families. Another big change is the balcony that connects to the 2 new upstairs bedrooms, granting a great big breath of fresh air with splendid views across the street. It features a 1m tall aluminium frame glass balustrade for elegance & safety.

The new extension features James Hardie's horizontal bevel-back timber weatherboards in white, offering a closely matching profile to the existing envelope. For the roof, we used concrete tiles, and between, we featured fibrous glass wool insulation from Pink Batts. This was also used behind the 10mm GIB ceiling board, providing excellent thermals year-round. We used area-specific wall linings such as GIB Aqualine for wet-areas, ensuring every space gets the moisture, thermal, and acoustic solution it deserves.

This breezy home alteration grants much-needed space and sunlight, while also being safe, comfortable, and expansive. With lots of new room to accommodate growth, VIKON’s work ensure this home stays relevant long into the future.
