Reconfiguring Classrooms for Growth & Openness
This Manurewa school was in need of open and expanded classrooms thanks to evolving learning goals.
In bringing a set of classrooms into the modern age, VIKON Construction worked hard to open up classrooms, installing coverings, and fixing emergency lights. The project’s premise was that the existing rooms were too closed and weren’t able to properly accommodate the school’s newer open learning environment plan. Knowing exactly what the principal had in mind, VIKON set out to deliver the results – above and beyond.
The first order of business was reconfiguring the classrooms themselves. This involved the extensive demolition of walls, framing, and lintels. One of the major difficulties we overcame during this project was the selective availability of classrooms for work at any one time. As the project as a whole spanned 2.5 months, the work itself could not be exclusively coordinated to the holiday period, and operating capacity was required during operating hours. To overcome this, we adapted to perform the construction in two separate phases.
When the rooms were opened up, we worked on installing new carpet, wall linings, and sliding doors. Fixtures were also an important part of this project, where we installed new heaters, fire doors & walls, and even an art sink unit. Finally, we also installed new emergency lights blockwide.
These newly configured classrooms perfectly met the school’s expended learning requirements and facilitated collaborative learning in large groups. The Autex wall linings came in an Atlantis blue finish, a perfect partner for the Korako finish carpets, which were a unique blend of static shivers and melded greys.
Since our renovation, Greenmeadows Intermediate has continued to flourish and empower students with opened minds thanks to opened environments. VIKON are dedicated to improving educational facilities nationwide and are continually proud to help future generations.
