Grand, Fantastical, and Wildly Unique
This incredibly creative build is one-of-a-kind and features some unique surprises within.
In 2020, VIKON undertook what was quite possibly our most unique residential project to date. An unconventional project, both in terms of structural implementation and aesthetic design, made this undertaking especially interesting. As main contractor, VIKON sought to carefully realise the plans for this partial demolition and new dwelling.
This vision for this Orakei home was to demolish half of the existing building and create an attached, but functionally separate building. Helming the project, VIKON undertook careful demolition to ensure that the existing half was preserved while organising all the connections to be ready for the new home.
If the attached nature and curious structure wasn’t enough, the floor plan also proved to be seriously one of a kind. Entering the ground floor reveals a consecutively-arranged open floor plan, featuring the lounge, dining, and kitchen areas. Behind is a scullery for improved storage space. But perhaps what is most curious about this floor is not the dual car garage, nor the dedicated temple room, but the full-fledged elevator, ready to service all three floors.
Taking a ride up, you’ll find three bedrooms, two common rooms, and a healthy supplement of four decks, capable of enjoying panoramic views in all directions. This floor saw extensive use of glass balustrades across the stairs and decks. The latter featured tiled flooring for a premium, all-weather solution. Taking a look up, you can find security cameras mounted under the top floor cladding, making the home resemble a veritable fortress.
The top floor (again, accessible by elevator or via stairs), is a brief but impactful statement. Featuring a master bedroom with a gigantic walk-in robe and ensuite, as well as a library, study, and sun room, this towering pinnacle is a monument to kingly living. Featuring a unique peak design, slick LED lighting, and thorough ventilation, it’d be hard to look out from the sunroom bay window and not feel like royalty. With tall views over suburban Orakei, comfortably nestled in a dedicated sunroom, the experience is positively glowing with splendour.
Gazing from outside, the top floor almost resembles a wizard’s tower, and it certainly makes as much of a statement in the neighbourhood. Each floor is uniquely layered with its own style like a cake: the ground floor touts warm white brick veneer, the first floor showcases horizontal bevel back weatherboard in ice white, and the top floor flaunts thin-profile vertical weatherboards in rustic wood tones. Topping it off is Metalcraft’s Espan 470 roofing, which comes in a sleek black. Covering the entryway is a fascinating brick veneer by Hard As Rocks, with tones ranging from brilliant orange to deep slate.
This eclectic smorgasbord of designs makes for a fascinatingly unique home. Grand, convenient, and unabashedly creative, this towering modern home is both fantastical and luxurious.
